Thanks for visiting us at Macpherson Photography! Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are planning a family photoshoot and looking for the best family photographers in Rehoboth Beach. Having family photos taken on the beach is a much different experience than in a studio and we have a few tips for you to keep in mind!
As photographers our number one goal is to find great light. Photographing outside can make this an adventure. The light can change day to day and hour to hour. In the summer the days are much longer. This means that the best light is late evening and early morning. Please be aware that because the days are longer the sun doesn’t set till about 8-8:30. We like to start our photoshoots at 7:30. Early shoots are the worst for lighting. Even at 5 the sun is still blazing and the beaches are still packed. Later is always better. Especially if you want that beautiful light.
The weather in Delaware can be scary. If you listen to the weather reports it can be even scarier. I can pretty much guarantee that if you are here for a week in the summer the weather forecast will be a chance of thunderstorms every day. Because we are on the coast the weather patterns come from the west then stall at the beach where you have the ocean breeze pushing back. This can create thunderstorms but does not mean that it will. I would say the weather report is wrong 90% of the time. Don’t freak out if you hear “chance of thunderstorms” it most likely won’t happen.
The best weather for photographers is an overcast sky. You wont get a sunset but you will get great photos. The clouds create a soft light and makes it really easy to photograph families.
This is all about personal preference. There are a few things I will mention to stay away from. Don’t have everyone match perfectly. This is not the 90’s lol. Not everyone has to wear khaki bottoms and white tops. Mix and match a little bit. There are a few good examples in our galleries if you are feeling stuck. Or just search pinterest for family beach portrait outfit ideas.
My favorite is navy blue and white with a pop of a color, like pink, teal, or yellow. But that is my personal preference. It’s all up to you. You are the one who is going to be looking at the portraits when you hang them up!
