Recently we photographed some family portraits in Sea Isle City New Jersey. The owners of Larsen’s Marina had all their family in town and wanted us to capture some photos of the whole family. We took the photos at the end of their dock at the marina and had a great time.

The timing was not the best but we actually came away with some beautiful portraits. We photographed in the middle of the afternoon because that was the only time the whole family could be there. We would have rather photographed at sunset but it ended up working out really well.
We were able to backlight with the sun and fill with our flashes. Putting the sun behind them also help keep them from really squinting. They had 16 people in their family which is a normal family size for us. Many families get together once every few years and that is when they want a family portrait. Believe it or not 12-15 people groups is our average.
